2015 Macbook Pro 15" Repair

March 2, 2021

I decided to find out why my main 15" Macbook Pro laptop did not sit level on the table. Upon inspection, I found that the bottom case was swollen. I took the bottom case off and observed that the lithium battery was very swollen and was pushing against the bottom cover!

I ran the "coconut" program to see how the battery was doing. It is only running at about 64% of original capacity and has a cycle count of 837. I used it last night without plugging it in and the battery went from full charge to 10% charge in under 3 hours.

I purchased a new battery off of EBAY and will attempt to change it! Of course Apple glued it to the bottom case! I will have to keep the fire extinguisher handy!

Steps:

    •  upgraded "Big Sur" OS to 11.2.2
    •  ran "Cleanmymac" program.
    •  backed up to Time Machine
    •  drained the battery
